In 2018, I chatted with WSW and DEMO’s Chris and Gabe on street style photography. They suggested @Parag0n/@eejiinn: he loves fashion, doesn’t fuck with the mainstream.

When we met, I felt underdressed.

Why Parag0n?

I Googled “cool names.”

Fashion.

After rooftop photography (LOL!) I got into sneakers. I wanted to show-off, flex. I got into fashion 14, 15. I realised fashion had to complement sneakers. My mom loves Comme, so she helped me.

First big purchase.

Yeezys 350. $600 range. Back then it was a lot.

How to afford?

Reselling. I had friends backdoor. I realised there was a demand. I made $2k a month. Photography helped me get more money. Bought 2,3 sneakers a month for myself.

It helped me understand culture.

Style.

High fashion, archival. Not influenced by mass culture. Whatever looks good on me.

I make my own clothes.

Favourite brands.

Comme, Vetements, Margiela, Raf, Junya, Yohji, Off-White, Number (N)ine, Kapital, Undercover.

Hypebeasts?

If you’re knowledgeable, I won’t look down on you.

Generally, they don’t care about history. That’s the kind I despise.

People blatantly copy me. Someone commented on a post once, “Nice @Parag0n cosplay.”

People suck my dick, talk about how great I am. Don’t suck up to me to tell people we’re friends.

Is infamy part of the image?

A bit.

Most expensive buy.

$3,000 Off-White leather jacket. Paid $1,500.

Must you be hot to be fashion cool?

I’m not super handsome. Clothes help.

Must a girlfriend know her stuff?

I’d rather she understand my interests, dresses well.

Club culture.

It’s toxic. People don’t connect. They’re busy creating false images of others. I can understand why people club; it’s fun.

Career.

Fashion-related. Music. I like to influence: designer, stylist, creative director, etc.

A fashion brand?

High end. Pristine, but grungy. Punk, rebellious.

Afterthought

Eejin’s 1.8m. I thought he was older. He’s definitely cool: engaged with culture, enigmatic, exclusive. His intimidating stature and style are no wonder he draws polarising interpretations.

Before we met, I was fascinated by his commitment to a look that’s so now. Can anyone who’s motivated by social appreciation claim ownership of a popular look, and truly make it their own? His answer: he doesn’t care.

Good answer.
